CITY OF BANGOR
COUNTY OF VAN BUREN, MICHIGAN
RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A POLICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

At a meeting of the City Council of the City of Bangor, County of Van Buren, Michigan, held in the City Hall of said City on October 20, 2014, at 7:00 pm.

PRESENT WERE:  Council members Householder, Farmer, Fry, Bator, Hicks, Tanner and Koenig
ABSENT WERE:  None

The following preamble and Resolution were offered by Mayor Pro Tem Farmer and seconded by Council member Tanner:

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bangor finds that it would be a benefit to the health, safety and welfare to the citizens of the City of Bangor to reestablish a Police Advisory Committee;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that:

1. A Police Advisory Committee is hereby created, consisting of five (5) members;  two (2) Council members, Jim Tanner and Dan Fry and three (3) community members selected by the Mayor through letters of intent, with approval of the Council.

2. The duties of the Police Advisory Committee shall be defined by the committee with the approval of the Council.  

3. The Police Advisory Committee shall provide the City Council with a monthly report of its activities in the preceding month no later than the seventh (7th) day of each month.

4. The City Council may from time-to-time authorize expenditures for the Police Advisory 
Committee in the performance of its duties as provided in this Resolution.  No expenditure is authorized without first being requested of the Council.

5. Upon appointment of members to the Police Advisory Committee, the City Council shall establish a time, date and place for the first meeting of the Committee.  At the initial meeting, the Mayor shall chair the meeting with the first order of business to be the selection of a Vice Chairperson, who shall not be a City employee.

6. The Committee may request the services of the City Attorney to assist the Committee in the performance of its duties.

7. The meetings of the Police Advisory Committee shall be open to the public, and shall be noticed and held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act, MCL 15.261, et seq.
